Compostable plastics are the future of sustainable materials.
What are Compostable plastics?
Compostable plastics are derived from plants and other biodegradable materials. They are engineered to break down more readily through composting within a specific time frame. These plastics once composted returns to nature as nutrient-rich soil leaving no toxic element to the environment.
How are Compostable plastics different from Regular Plastics?
Regular plastics are made from non-renewable resources which can last hundreds of years in the landfill, contributing to pollution and health risks.
Why Ecosange’s Compostable plastics should be preferred over Regular plastics?
- It degrades upto 90% within less than 180 days.
- It does not leave behind any toxic elements after degradation
- Has lesser carbon footprint
- A sustainable alternative to traditional plastics
Guidelines for Compostable Bag Manufacturing in India
As per the rules of Plastic Waste Management Rule 2016:
Mandatory Certification
- Compostable plastic products must be certified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
- Manufacturers must obtain a valid certificate of conformity for their products to confirm they meet biodegradability standards as per the IS/ISO 17088 specifications.
Labeling Requirements
- Compostable bags must have clear labeling that indicates they are 100% compostable.
- The label should also include:
- The manufacturer’s name.
- Certification details from the CPCB.
